A documentary detailing the harrowing journey of Brian and Jennea Welch growing up together with their radical courage and unconventional faith. This coming-of-age story grapples with teenage depression, the quest for identity, and the hope of a father willing to do whatever it takes for his daughter. The story of this family is a unique display of how Awakening Youth can tailor a program to an individual and their family.

EXPERIENCE

THE AWAKENING YOUTH EXPERIENCE

Awakening Youth offers a therapeutic living experience for students between the ages of 13 and 23 who have been adopted, experienced the loss of a significant caregiver, or come from single parent families. Students are provided with a safe, challenging, family-based, peaceful home environment that leads to bonding & relationship building. Based upon the student’s strengths & educational success, we work to ignite vision for the student’s life. This is all accomplished while restoring families through comprehensive case management and common-sense, Biblical counsel.

We have proven success working with young people, ages 13-23, who have lost regular interaction with a parent to life events such as divorce, addiction, death, being surrendered for adoption, or other reasons. Before coming to Awakening, many of our students exhibit the following symptoms:

  • Depression

  • Failing at school

  • Isolation from peers

  • Drug experimentation

  • Self-harm

  • Suicidal ideation

  • Anxiety

  • Mood swings

  • Promiscuity

  • Social media addiction

We are here to help and we do help:

  • All of our graduates go on to full independence and/or continued education.

  • None of our graduates have experienced teen pregnancy

  • None of our graduates return to treatment

  • We have a 100% High school graduation rate

SOLUTIONS
EXPERIENCE LIFE

Students learn how to cook, do their laundry, and clean in a traditional home environment.

Students are encouraged to express their faith in many creative outlets including music, writing, games, skits, and much more. Their faith is challenged, awakened, and supported by our team of seasoned, committed, believers.

The Awakening Youth experience is integrated in the community. Students attend a community church, volunteer in community organizations, exercise in a community-based fitness center, and interact with members of the community all under the guidance and supervision of our team members.

Awakening Youth works with a network of local of healthcare providers so that our students gain a full understanding of the continuum of care that is available to them and how that is accessed during their stay and when they return home so that they may continue their positive self-care practices.

EXPERIENCE EDUCATION

At Awakening Youth students utilize Alpha Omega Academy; an online, fully-accredited curriculum that is self-paced, but administered and supervised by our Dean of Students. In addition to our team, Alpha Omega provides board-certified licensed teachers available by phone and live chat weekdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. If additional help is

needed in a specific area, a tutor may be available to assist for the successful

completion of the course work.

As students ignite a motivating vision for their lives, our team works to identify and plan

for future educational goals while they are with us and when they go home. Every graduate from Awakening Youth has gone on to some form of continued education in university, community college, trade school, or the military.

For our students who have completed high school we work individually with the family and the student to arrange for whatever higher education and training needs they may have. This can include community college, online college, trade school, vocational rehab or training, and community based work opportunities.

EXPERIENCE RELATIONSHIP

Students are involved in regular group sessions where their concerns are heard and viewpoints are challenged by their peers under the direction and guidance of Awakening Youth team members. A group meeting deals with the development of relational skills, as well as hurts and struggles in social relationships. Group addresses issues such as anger, depression, abuse, self-esteem, manipulative behaviors, divorce, peer pressure, communication, and a myriad of other topics in real time.

As a home-based environment, Awakening Youth staff members are constantly looking for ways to build relationships with our students. Loving and consistent redirection teaches students that correction and Love are directly connected and necessary for growth and development to be the person they want to be.

With several examples of family-centered, successful committed marriages around them on a daily basis, students are enlightened to the value of their own family as they engage in our family-oriented daily schedule.

Team members remain in regular communication with the families we serve. We highlight and emphasize the positive, unique character of each family to the student. In turn, the parent or parents shift from being the “enemy” to being the role-models and the reward for their child.

As relationships are built, our team will mine the student’s individual strengths to identify and ignite a self-propelling vision that motivates students to be future oriented in their decision making processes.

EXPERIENCE TRAVEL

The trips that a student will take while they are at Awakening Youth will vary.  In the past, we have: conducted west-coast road-trips that last as long as 30 days, taken students to visit the Northeast (NYC, Philly, Washington DC, Cape May, NJ, etc.); experienced spring break in South-Florida; and experienced MANY other sites, lakes, mountains, and regions.

Through travel, students are able to explore and discover the world as they might not have been able to before and are introduced to individuals, cultures, and lifestyles they may have never known.

Through long and short distance trips, students are able to grow and develop team building skills; i.e. how to deal with conflict, building trust, and serving others.

Additionally, we believe that it is though such shared experiences that our team is able to better develop bridges of trust and accountability; through which, vision is ignited and relationships are built.
